Come out the wilderness....

Step up and listen to Sister Ethel Davenport on this February 2nd, 1949 recording. Thanks to the Gospel Discography,  we know that Sister Davenport was accompanied by Sammy Price on piano, Ernest Hill on bass, Herb Cowans on drums and Al Casey playing some tasty guitar licks. I am not quite clear, but it seems that Jimmy Blythe, Jr., the other name listed on the label, was a pseudonym for Sammy Price. I love the feel of this record. Reminds me of those full voiced barrelhouse blues singers from the 1920's like Bessie Smith, etc....at least to me.
